How Trauma Counselling Can Help You Heal

Trauma therapy isn’t about reliving the worst moments of your life on command. It’s a paced, collaborative process that helps you understand your reactions, regulate your nervous system, and rebuild a sense of safety in your body and in your relationships. Depending on your history and goals, this can include:

  • Safety and stabilization: Before processing what happened, we focus on helping you feel more grounded and in control day-to-day.
  • Nervous system regulation: Somatic trauma therapy techniques help you notice and work with how trauma shows up in the body, not just the mind.
  • Processing at your pace: When you’re ready, we work through what happened in a way that feels manageable, never rushed or forced.
  • Rebuilding trust and connection: Many clients come to trauma therapy for adults, hoping to feel safer in relationships again.

Trauma-Informed Talk Therapy

Somatic & Body-Based Approaches

Trauma lives in the body as much as the mind. Somatic trauma therapy techniques help you notice physical patterns and build tools to regulate your nervous system in real time.

Attachment-Focused Work

For many clients, trauma is tied to early relationships and attachment. We look at how those patterns show up now, so you can build more trusting connections going forward.

Practical Coping & Regulation Tools

Alongside deeper processing, we offer concrete strategies for managing triggers, sleep disruption, and day-to-day overwhelm, so you have support both in and out of session.

Step 1: A conversation before anything elseTwo overlapping speech bubbles with a small connection spark and a numbered badge.1

Free Consultation & Matching

Step 2: Naming what is actually happeningA profile, body signal and magnifying glass representing the mapping of anxiety patterns.2

Building Safety & Trust

Early sessions focus on stabilization — building the trust and coping tools needed before deeper trauma work begins.

Step 3: Learning to interrupt anxiety in real timeA broken anxiety loop, pause symbol and grounding ripples representing practical coping tools.3

Processing at Your Pace

Together, you and your therapist work through what happened using approaches suited to you (somatic, talk-based, or a combination), always at a pace you set.

Step 4: Testing the tools against real lifeAn open doorway, gradual footsteps and a check mark representing supported real-world progress.4

Frequently Asked Questions About Trauma Therapy

Does insurance cover trauma counselling?

Many extended health plans cover sessions with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) or Registered Social Worker (RSW). Since our team holds both designations, most plans that cover counselling will apply. We recommend checking your specific plan for coverage details.

Individual trauma counselling starts at $150 per session. Visit our Fees & FAQs page for full pricing details.

During your free 20-minute consultation, you'll meet with the clinician you've chosen to see if they're the right fit for your needs. You'll have the opportunity to discuss what you're experiencing, ask questions, and get a sense of how they work. If you both feel it's a good match, you can move forward with booking therapy. If not, the clinician can recommend another therapist on our team whose training and approach may better suit your needs. They can either help you book with the recommended clinician during the consultation or arrange for them to contact you directly to discuss next steps.

Yes. We offer online therapy for trauma across BC, and virtually for AB residents, in addition to in-person sessions at our Kelowna office.

Yes. We offer trauma recovery counselling for teens 13+, including support for attachment trauma, bullying, and other forms of emotional trauma. Sessions are tailored to what feels safe and age-appropriate for each young person.

Trauma therapy specifically addresses how distressing or overwhelming experiences are stored in the mind and body. We use approaches like somatic work and paced processing alongside the communication and coping skills you'd find in general counselling.

That's okay. You're never required to share more than you're ready to. Much of trauma therapy focuses on stabilization and regulation first, and processing happens only when, and if, it feels right for you.

Yes. If an experience is still affecting how you feel, trust, or function, it's worth talking about, no matter whether it was a single critical incident or something that built up over time.
