Does This Sound Like You?

  • The death of a parent, partner, child, or friend
  • Anticipatory grief while caring for someone who is ill
  • Loss of a relationship through divorce or separation
  • Grief tied to a health diagnosis or major life change
  • Feeling stuck, numb, or unable to move forward
  • Grief complicated by guilt, anger, or even relief
  • Supporting a child or teen through a loss

Grief looks different depending on what you’ve lost and who you are. That’s why you can book a free consultation with the clinician you’d like to work with and use that time to see if they’re the right fit for you. You’ll have the opportunity to share your story, ask questions, and get a sense of how they work. If it feels like a good match, you can move forward together. If not, the clinician can recommend another grief therapist on our team whose experience and approach may be a better fit and help guide you through the next steps.

Ways Grief Therapy Supports You

Grief therapy won’t erase your loss or put you on a set timeline, there isn’t one. It offers a place to slow down and process what you’re carrying, at whatever pace feels right. That might include:

  • Making space for grief: A place to feel whatever comes up: sadness, anger, guilt, even relief without judgment.
  • Working through complicated feelings: Some losses come with mixed emotions. Grief work therapy helps you hold all of it.
  • Rebuilding everyday life: Support in figuring out what routines, work, and relationships look like now.
  • Honouring the loss while moving forward: Finding ways to carry the relationship or the loss with you, rather than leaving it behind.

Meaning-Making & Narrative Work

Grief therapy often involves finding ways to talk about and understand your loss. You build a narrative that helps it make sense, without needing it to make things okay.

Family & Relational Support

Your First Steps in Grief Therapy

Step 1: A conversation before anything elseTwo overlapping speech bubbles with a small connection spark and a numbered badge.1

Free Consultation & Matching

A free 20-minute consultation gives you the chance to meet with the clinician you’ve chosen and see if they’re the right fit. If not, they’ll help connect you with another therapist on our team.

Step 2: Naming what is actually happeningA profile, body signal and magnifying glass representing the mapping of anxiety patterns.2

Naming What You've Lost

Early sessions create space to talk openly about your loss and how it’s affecting you, without pressure to have it all figured out.

Step 3: Learning to interrupt anxiety in real timeA broken anxiety loop, pause symbol and grounding ripples representing practical coping tools.3

Processing at Your Own Pace

Together, you and your therapist explore the emotions, memories, and changes tied to your loss.

Step 4: Testing the tools against real lifeAn open doorway, gradual footsteps and a check mark representing supported real-world progress.4

Finding Your Footing Again

As things shift, sessions focus on rebuilding routines, relationships, and a sense of self that includes this loss, rather than being defined by it.

Frequently Asked Questions On Grief Therapy

Does insurance cover grief counselling?

Most extended health plans that cover counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) or Registered Social Worker (RSW) will apply to grief therapy. Since our team holds both designations, this covers most plans. Check your specific policy for details.

No. Grief doesn't follow a fixed timeline, and there's no point at which you should be "over it." If your grief still feels heavy or unmanageable, that's a reason to reach out, not a sign something's wrong with you.

If grief is affecting your sleep, relationships, work, or sense of self, or if it just feels like too much to carry alone, that's reason enough to reach out. You don't need to hit a crisis point first.

Yes. We offer grief therapy online across BC, and virtually for AB residents, in addition to in-person sessions at our Kelowna office.

Yes. Grief and loss therapy can support you through any significant loss, not just the death of a loved one. This may include the end of a relationship, miscarriage or pregnancy loss, infertility, a health diagnosis, the loss of a job, or grieving a version of life you expected to have. Any experience that brings profound loss or life change deserves care and support.

That's common, especially after complicated relationships or long illnesses. Grief work therapy makes room for all of it, you don't need to feel one "acceptable" emotion to be grieving.

Yes. We offer youth grief counselling for clients 13+, tailored to what feels appropriate for their age and how they're processing the loss.
